Deep Fried Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

">
Have you ever heard of a Deep Fried Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich? Check out this quick 30 second video if you're not familiar with the concept.

I first saw it done this summer and have been meaning to post about it for awhile now. A self-confessed peanut butter lover, I'm somewhat puzzled by this creation. I didn't try it at the time, but I think curiosity would get the best of me the second time around.

What do you think?

Could it be worth the calories OR are you totally disgusted?

  1. I have very mixed feelings about this. I actually don't think I would really like it. I like my peanut butter to be semi unadulterated. This, I think, would just be too greasy. But it certainly is a crazy concept!

  2. Are they using those uncrustables? Actually I think I would like this.

  3. I'm willing to try anything at least once. I'm not sure about the deluge of chocolate syrup, but I think I would like the PB&J with the browned crust just fine.

  4. For some reason it won't let me watch the video but I am pretty sure I would find it scary. ;-) I'm surprised Paula Dean hasn't made them. ;-)

  5. I would try it if I ordered it at a fair. I am not a huge fried food person but I always get a fried oreo at the fair.

  7. I'm with Kristin, I'm not a huge fried food person either BUT I think I would definitely try it at a state fair. It really didn't look all that bad to me. Curiousity would end up winning out. :o)

  8. I think I would like it! It looks like a pie. I love PB spread on warm toast or in my oatmeal - where it gets all gooey and melted. I would skip the chocolate sauce - that sounds icky.

  9. I would've consider trying it...until the chocolate syrup! Powdered sugar on top would be my limit.

  10. I was wondering how to fry it until I saw the uncrustable...I think it's a pretty fun idea! I'd definitely give a go once...you know, just for the sake of experiment ;) I'd leave off the chocolate, though. I think I want to try the grilled cheese uncrustables done like that, too...drizzled with something savory. MMM! Actually, I feel like it may turn into a craving...

  11. This is a tough one but then I'm not the world's biggest peanut butter lover to begin with. Now, if you asked my children I'm pretty sure they would all love this idea!!! :o)

  12. I've never heard of this, but it doesn't surprise me at all. Around here they will deepfry anything. Pie, pickles, twinkies, candy bars, pizza....

  13. If I used chocolate or Nutella instead of jelly, I would be in danger of eating too many of them. It's one of those foods you have to try, no matter how fattening/greasy/addictive it is.

That said - I'd totally eat it.

  14. Is that chocolate sauce over the top of it? I suppose I would give it a try but without the chocolate sauce.

  16. I am from utah and yes I have had a deep fried pb and J at the fair and let me tell you they are to die for ... SOOOOO GOOOD You would think that the bread would soak up the grease but it doesnt it just melts the jelly and pb in the middle to make an amazingly good treat a must try...

  17. As soon as I saw the video, it brought to mind my one (and only) experience with deep fried Twinkies. A favorite of my childhood--they taste completely different now--I thought they sounded gross, but we ordered one anyway. Gross was not the word. The hydrogenated whatever filling melted and it was really, really disgusting. Now a fried P&B sandwich--minus whatever that was he poured on at the end--just might be worth trying. I'd say it's research that needs to be done, Kim.

  18. I'm with Joanne...mixed feelings. I don't know about the calories. But the taste would be good :-)

  21. I just found your blog tonight...and what a fun post to stumble on. I've never heard of this...and I don't know if I could stomach it (I'm not a fried-food girl) but I would want to give it a try. Thanks for sharing!

  22. OMG. The chocolate took it one step too far.

But if you want to get one, I'll take a bite. :) No way could I manage it on my own.

  23. I think it looks really good, except for the chocolate.

  24. Yeah, I'm not sure I could do that one but I'm not a big PBJ fan myself.

  25. Well, it looks very rich. But I might try it once for my son. He likes to push the boundaries when it comes to junk food!

  26. Not disgusted - just don't deep fry in general. Even when I fry something I use a minimum of oil. I can see that at the MN State Fair where everything is fried and served on a stick. I would definitely have a bite!

  27. LOL, I think it ruined it with the chocolate! But that's just me and my dislike of things smothered or coveredin chocolate especially chocolate syrup, EW!

    Btw, I've never eaten PB & J.

  28. I actually bought this at the fair a year or two ago without the chocolate sauce. The peanut butter still sticks to the roof of your mouth!

  29. Cute idea. A healthy alternatives: an almond butter wrap
