No-Bake Cookies have been a favorite of mine since I was a little girl. They are also something that I have never made. While looking through cookie recipes, I found this one and I was so excited to give it a try. Who knew that they were so easy? In fact, they are so easy that they are actually dangerous! Just knowing that I can whip a cookie up in less than 10 minutes is certainly a dangerous thing for me. These are addictive and will definitely be on my cookie tray this year. I got the recipe from Recipezaar where it was rated five stars and had 167 reviews.
No-Bake Cookies - courtesy of Recipezaar (I halved the recipe and it worked great)
1/2 cup butter
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup milk
4 tablespoons cocoa
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (or chunky)
3-31/2 cups dry quick-cooking oats *I used old-fashioned oats with great results*
2 teaspoons vanilla
Add the first four ingredients into a 4-quart sauce pan. Bring to a rolling boil and hold for 1 minute. Remove from heat. Stir in the next 3 ingredients and drop by tablespoons onto wax paper. Let cool until set.
Also, I wondered if anyone has ever tried Alton Brown's Good Eats Roast Turkey? For some reason, I did a search on Alton Brown's top ten recipes last night. I couldn't believe how many five star recipes he has listed on the food network. But, this recipe for his roast turkey really caught my attention. Are you ready for this??? Alton Brown's Good Eats Roast Turkey has received a five star review and has been reviewed 2234 times!! I have never seen so many reviews on a recipe before. I started reading the reviews and people were raving about it. So, I was curious if any of you have tried this recipe before? If you have, please share. If you haven't, maybe you should. I think this is the recipe I'm going to try this Thanksgiving. How can you go wrong with so many wonderful reviews?

ReplyDeleteThe only no bakes I've ever eaten were my sister's peanut butter balls and my chocolate balls. These look good and I love the oats. Have to run them through recipe builder to see how many points! I'm going to check out Alton Brown's recipe. I want to brine my bird this year.
ReplyDeleteA great instant treat. Looking forward to hearing about the turkey!

ReplyDeleteThose look great,Kim!I have to make more cookies :)
ReplyDeleteI have been brining my turkeys for the past 8 years using Alton Brown's recipe (I confess to a slight crush...!) It is the best turkey you will ever eat. Use pickling salt instead of kosher and you can skip the heating of the brine part - it dissolves better than kosher. The specific herbs used aren't important use what you like. This brine is dynamite on pork shoulder before smoking (substitiute apple juice for half the water!) or any other lean meat that can dry out. I brine all pork products and most poultry. You'll love it! Great blog Kim! (Amy Stone, your neighbor)
ReplyDeleteI've been looking for good no-bake cookies! These sound delicious with all those oats and PB! I'm off to check out Alton's recipe!

ReplyDeleteMy 12-year-old daughter makes these at least once a month and they disappear quickly. So simple, yet so good!
ReplyDeleteI love no-bake cookies in the summer so I don't have to turn the oven on, but I actually bake in the winter just to turn the oven on to warm up the house :-) These still look yummy though!
ReplyDeleteI must have been living in a bubble, but I had not tried No-Bake Cookies until my husband's sister brought them over Halloween night! I fell in love! Although my family was quick to tell me they aren't "lean"...sometimes you just gotta do it! Thanks for the recipe!
ReplyDeleteokay, ever since you mentioned altons turkey, i've been obsessing. i made it tonight! i'm going to blog about it soon, but i did like it! if anything it totally sold me on brines. i don't know that i would do the aromatics again, it didn't do a whole lot for me (that i was able to notice anyway). i just thought you'd like to know!
